[pct-l] Whitney
Definitely plan to hike Whitney (get the pass when you get your hiking
permit - go through the PCTA). You will need an extra day to do it, weather
permitting. The trail from Guitar Lakes up is actually rather gentle with
only one snow field to go over - it is the altitude that may get you. I also
advise getting to Guitar Lakes (or Crabtree Meadows) in the afternoon. I
favor the Guitar Lake area because it is really special - all above tree
line - with hundreds of big, fat marmots who like open packs). Leave early
(wearing warm clothes). You can arrive back down in early to mid afternoon
and hike several miles towards Forrester Pass. Water is abundant until you
start up just pass Guitar Lakes.
