Jeez! What a tense lot we are! When do we get to go out and HIKE again?!?
On trailnames, I started a SoCal section hike in June last year, well
behind the pack of thru-hikers. There was one other guy hiking at the
same time, and we'd pass each other off and on each day. He was solo
hiking also, and seemed to have a bit of a 'tude (he probably thought
the same of me) - we exchanged few words during the times we met. After
a few days of this he passed me one morning and said, "How the #$@*% do
you keep getting ahead of me - you're as slow as molasses in January!"
It pissed me off at first, but as I stewed on it I figured it pretty
well summed up my approach to the trail, so I kept it as my own.
IMPORTANT DISCLAIMER: If this sounds familiar and you found a rock in
your pack somewhere north of Idyllwild, then I made it all up and it's
actually someone else you said that to. What an amazing coincidence.
