[pct-l] footwear advice
now if we can just get somebody to diss Mr. Jardine ---- nah I pretty much
agree with his gear list. Hiking style and footwear? Maybe not. The only
reason I don't switch footwear is because what I have works fine. ( I use a
liner sock) That, and what I have observed -- people with terrible blisters
-- on BOTH ends of the spectrum -- lightweight NB style AND heavyweight
Asolo/Raichle type mountain boots. In addition, what I wear works for
everything except 5.8+ rock and skiing. So my only advice on footwear is if
it ain't broke don't fix it. If it is, try something else. Brands that offer
a variety of widths as well as sizes would be my choice because the odds of
getting a good fit are much better. Stands to reason that quality usually
costs more. What I wore cost around $200, but they are quite capable of
getting 2000 miles before resoling to get another 1500. I can't imagine going
into a Wal mart and picking out a one width fits all hiking shoe for $15.97
without expecting some kind of problem - like disintegration by Mt Laguna
--of feet as well as shoes!
