[pct-l] Re: Hike and Share your stories

OK, I'll bite. I started late last year and was hiking on Memorial Day,
about 50 miles south of Idyllwild. I hadn't seen much civilization the
day before, and hadn't seen any yet that morning. I was section hiking
from Campo to Idyllwild, and since it was just for a couple of weeks I
was subsisting on Power Bars, jerky & gorp. Needless to say, I was
hungry this morning.

I'd been hiking for about three hours when I came around a bend and
walked into the outermost site of a campground. I stopped dead in my
tracks when I saw a chef there cooking at the big campground grill.
Chef's hat, apron, the whole deal. Turns out once a year (on Memorial
Day) a local horseback group has a pancake breakfast catered at this
campground. They were all expected at around 10:00, and it was about
9:30. Upon accepting a most gracious invitation, I sat down at a picnic
table with a linen tablecloth and had a huge stack of pancakes,
sausages, bacon, eggs & orange juice, then filled my waterbag with
icewater from his cooler. It was wild.

I continued another 6 miles that day and made camp at about noon. I was
so content and relaxed I just wanted to wiggle my toes in the breeze. A
great day.
