I've seen the 3100 miles for the CDT thrown around, but could never figure
out how they came upon that figure.  I think that's the length of the actual
divide.  Even if you hiked the longest official and alternate routes you may
come up with 2900, but even this may be stretching it.

There's a "trail" in the East, the so called ECCT, East Coast Continental
Trail, or ECT, Eastern Continental Trail that runs 4500 miles or so from Key
West to Cape Gaspe in Canada, but neither runs along the coast or the eastern
continental divide for very long.  It has lots of road walking where there is
no trail and uses the Florida Trail, Pinhoti Trail, Appalachian Trail and the
International AT.  None of the trails are completed, but the AT.

As it stands, I believe the PCT is the longest, completed US trail at 2650.
