[pct-l] thru hike questions

I'm planning a thru-hike in 03 if all falls together.

 So how is the best way to get my pack and gear to the trailhead if I'm
flying into San Diego?  Is a normal thru-hiker size pack allowed as carry
on?  Is is better to check it in as luggage (and obviously risk not seeing
it again)?  How about the stove and its fuel - and possibly other stuff -
that are not allowed on the plane?  Is it best to just have to them mailed
ahead to Campo or San Diego and pick it up on arrival? Which pack items in
particular have given people problems when attempting to transport them by
plane?
