[pct-l] Bearikade Now Approved for Yosemite/Sequoia/KingsCanyon NPs

Now there are three approved or tentatively approved canisters. HOPEWFULL=
Y, the new Ursack will gain approval also and save everyone big $.

Note that this means you have to carry a canister from Kearsarge Pass to =
Sonora Pass. Since you can't ship anything from either placce, you're loo=
king at Kennedy Meadows to Echo Lake Resort at Lake Tahoe - a LONG 400 mi=
les. If you're sneaky, you could start or stop at Vermillion Valley Resor=
t. All this  because the Natl Park Service refuses to deal with the polit=
ically landmined gross over-population of bears in favor of the far easie=
r (and financially rewardable) position of regulating the public. Try thi=
s #$%^ with a bear and he'll bite your @#@#$ off!

The Bearikade has been approved (conditionally) in Yosemite, Sequoia, and
Kings Canyon National Parks and Inyo National Forest--so you can use it i=
n
these areas.

9,600 feet is the approximate tree line in the park--that elevation is us=
ed
for food storage and fire regulations.  Bear canisters are required about
tree line because there generally aren't trees suitable to hang food in
properly.  This requirement has been in effect since around 1999.

Also note that canisters are required in parts of Inyo NF, just south of
Yosemite.  Visit

I have the large Bearikade Expedition model. Does that satisfy your regul=
ations? What about below 9600 feet? What's the logic - I doubt yogi and B=
ooboo have
altimiters. The word on the PCT list was that canisters were only require=
d from Forrester Pass to Glen Pass. When did that change?

Currently, approved bear canisters are required in all places above 9,600
feet.  You might also check with Inyo NF regarding their regulations.
