In Jardines book "Beyond Backpacking" he does list
a camera w/ 1 roll film and weight.

When hiking with his wife it's a shared item
and she carries it. (p. 506)

In his solo gear list, it is listed. (p. 510)

Whether it's in his earlier book, I can't say,
since I don't have a copy available.
