    I was home from the war (VietNam) and trying to resume my life, make
up for lost time, and not think about VietNam or read about it in the
papers or see it on TV.

    I was also doing some weekend backpacking in the Sierra; not with a
75 pound pack, but more like a 40 or so pound pack.
