[pct-l] Need some info.
Sounds like you're planning a 2 day hike from Hwy 44 to Hwy 299 with 1 night
on trail. If that's the case, then road 22 is about half way and certainly
works. On the other hand if you want to avoid camping near a road, the rim
is pretty flat and you could make a nice dry camp just about anywhere before
or after Road 22.
Some other options:
1. There's a really nice wooded area around the stream that sometimes runs
from Porcupine Reservoir - might be water too.
2. Near the Old Fire Lookout - um, great view.
Pickings are slim after you drop down off the rim into the area called LAVA
on Map N17. The ground near the trail is very sharp young lava flows with
very few spaces that would accommodate a tent footprint.
