I respectfully beg to differ regarding "no rain, no bugs"... in late April
of '94 we hiked through steady falling snow up Mt. Laguna on Day 2 and
camped in windy, near-blizzard conditions.  In our tent.   We hiked through
half a foot of snow the next day - it WAS gorgeous, though, and the trail
was still easy to follow.

Re: bugs -- if you don't like ants crawling over your face while you're
trying to sleep you may prefer a light tent.  We grow big ants in southern
Calif....

It's definitely a personal decision.  Good luck!
