[pct-l] maps



In my opinion the best trade off of detail to width of coverage comes in the 
USGS county topographic maps.  For example, the prime portion of the high 
Sierra is covered well by about six to eight maps.  The topographic details 
are not there but then that is what the guide book maps are for.  The county 
maps give good information on roads, towns, facilities, water sources, 
waterfalls, lakes, NP-NF-Wilderness Area boundaries, etc., etc.

Obviously the accuracy of the trail trace on these may not be good, but 
again, that is what the guide book or Tom's Topo trace is for.
