Tom Harrison's map of San Diego County and the San Jacinto are very helpful 
for giving the "big picture".  Both are waterproof and light.  I picked up 
copies of the FS maps of the San Bernadinos and San Gabriels.  Both are paper 
and bulky,  especially after being treated with water repellant,  useful none 
the less.
