When I thru-hiked the JMT in '96, we shipped a resupply package (actually 2)
to Muir Trail Ranch. They insisted that the food be shipped in 5-gal buckets
(like paint buckets) with a handle. Just duct tape the handle down and the
USPS has no problem with it. They hardly blinked an eye.
Like the tool box, postal employees will probably remember that they are
holding one of those. Recovery time will be lessened as mentioned above.
