Yearly hikes on the JMT of the 150-200 mile variety follow a busy tax
season as a CPA. The problem: without the benefit of even a minimal daily
conditioning regimen of 1 hour/ 4 miles preceding the hike, how to
immediately hike 15-20 miles the first day and every day for the 2 week
period, as comfortably as possible. Personal weight of 195 lbs ( Monte class
) with a pack weight of 30 lb. requires the solid support of quality hiking
boots. The key is the addition of fitted insoles ( " Super Feet ") . I fit
the insole to the inside of the entire boot, but leaving it 1/2 inch short
for " slide room ", thereby transferring friction heat from the bottom of my
foot to the insole and boot . Add Smart Wool socks and 2 good hiking poles
and the difference is magnifique. Running shoes provide none of the needed
support for me and aren't even close.
