Doug: My belief is that raw feed body needs less calories than cooked feed 
one.  all the pancreatic enzymes that are preserved is just one example of 
higher efficiencies.  in general, metabolic efficiences of non toxic body 
allow far fewer calories to be burned during exertion.
so maybe a "typical cooked food eating thruhiker will lose weight on 5000 
cals, but don't think i will.  we'll see.  and the caloric theory is bunk 
anyway because it does not explain breatharianism ("autobiography of a yogi" 
by yogananda).  and don't ask me for a controlled study on that one...
