Man, I pity any poor sucker who is a Southbound PCTer this year. June has
been monsoon so far in the Northwest. Been checking out all the online
catalogs, since it's been raining all day without letup.

Rain in Washington----- It has been raining hard here at 5200ft in Idaho.
I have never been rained on in my tarptent, (a Campmor tarp made from l.6oz
silnylon) so decided to set it up in the yard. I managed to get it up
between downpours, put my tyvek and a cushy big thermorest in. Later put a
new sleeping bag rated to 32degrees and me in for the night. I was
perfectly dry in the morning, just decided it was not so easy to get in and
out of the tarptent with a cast on.
The tarptent has been up for 4 days now and yesterday morning because every
thing was still dry in the tent, I added my poncho made from the
1oz silicone treated nylon. I had put grommets in the poncho so was able to
add a vestibule
to the existing tarptent without any extra staking. It poured buckets last
nite and also right now and still everything looks great out there.
So maybe I am ready for Washington, going to hike there some in July and
August.
