[pct-l] Snow in the San Gabriel Mtns.

FWIW, the visible snow in the San Gabriel Mtns viewed from the south face
(note the PCT runs along the north face of several peaks here) has been
reduced to the upper 500 feet or so of Mt. Baldy (10,000' +) by consistent,
dry, warm weather in the LA area for several weeks.

Caveat: Spring storms are possible up to late June, early July most years
that could reverse the current situation.

Anybody gone hiking up there or in the San Bernardinos or San Jacintos
recently?

Also, an outbreak of an unusual high number of rattlesnake bites has occurred
in the northern parts of San Diego County. No stated reason but I surmise
stupid people messing with snakes that don't know any better.

For those of you from outside of rattlesnake experience, they are just like
most other animals in that they are scarred to death of humans and when given
the chance will speed away unless protecting young. Walk with a heavy foot
and a light song and they will usually hear you coming and get out of your
way. I have had numerous encounters with rattlers over the years in Sth
Calif. and never been bit and never had a problem. Oh, and when it is hot
and dry they like to seek water like you and me too! So pay attention when
pumping from a creek.

IMHO,
