[pct-l] using palmtop & modem for trail

Hi, all. I've been following the discussions with interest these last few
weeks. My trip as planned now will start from Campo May 28th and reach
Manning Prov. Pk. sometime in mid-October. This will mean I'll be playing
"catch up" and going for 20+ mpd overall average. I sure hope to catch up
with at least some of the other thru hikers & get to meet them. My trip
will have regular updates from the trail to my website, which leads me to
my question.

I will carry a Handspring Visor and pack a modem module for it in my
driftbox. My quest right now is to connect with a free ISP - I hate to pay
those monthly charges. I have downloaded Proxiweb and Multimail for the
Visor, and wish to configure these to work with an ISP so that I can
send/get email and update my web site from the palmtop devise whenever I
get to a phone. I have been successful getting these to connect with my
local $30/mo. ISP, but not so far with any free ISP. I have tried FreeI,
and haven't been able to connect to it w/ the Visor.

While I am doing the research on this I want to ask if any on this list
have some light to shed on this? Perhaps a response directly to me would be
better than to the whole list since it's a narrow technical type of question.

I know Dharmabum is planning on putting his notebook computer in his
driftbox, but I would prefer not to do this and want to rely on my Visor
entirely.

And BTW a related question - do they make AAA lithium batteries, like they
do AA?
