RE: [pct-l] G2 climb on Travel Channel

>> As Ron Moak says" Gear means absolutely nothing". <<

Thanks for the quote. Of course since I just finished making my third "AND
LAST" pack for the hike, I have to say I spend too much time fussing with
gear. Of course playing with gear provides a certain level of satisfaction
on it's own.

I'm sure my equipment has a better chance of making it Manning than I,
considering the number of people who'd like to scarf it up. I still enjoy
the process of designing and making it. During the design phase I must
visualize how it will work under a variety of conditions. By thinking about
how my gear will react, I'm also forced to think about how I'll react.

Understanding my gear and myself doesn't assure success. People generally
don't bail on a thru-hike at the moment of a crisis. It's more of a gradual
build up feelings.

The new pack is made from Spectra fabric. It's extremely strong and light. I
can't even cut it with my scissors. Haven't weighted it yet, but it'll be in
the 1 to 1.25 pound range for a 4000+ cubic inches. The pack includes a full
suspension system with padded hip belt and shoulder straps. It should be
able to comfortably carry loads of up 50 lbs. Not that I ever intend to try
it.

I'm putting my sewing machine away for the rest of the year. PROMISE!
