Just watched a climb of G2 on the travel channel. All the top climbers using
top of the line interal frame packs, light hike boots and treking poles.
Porters shown using old beat-up trapper nelson frames with plastic olive
barrels straped to each one, hiking in whatever used tennis shoes they could
find. As Ron Moak says" Gear means absolutely nothing". A thru-hiker needs
strong legs and a weak mind!! It's the heart of a person that keeps them
going on. Many hardbody men and women drop out each year because they cannot
adapt to changes in weather or gear mishapor the unforeseen. Alot of hikers
you think would be a shoe-in to finish flop, and many who look like coyote
bait finish. So if you have strong enough legs and a weak enough mind, you
have a chance. " Ice Axe Dodge"
