I have been told that even cans can be smelled by bears. I know this sounds
incredible but that's what I have been told. One thought that I have tried.
Hide your food under a rock in a stream. If all the air is out of the bag it
will have minimum buoyancy and you should be able to move a couple of good
sized rocks, dump the food into the hole, and move the rocks back. On the
JMT there is a lake or stream wherever you camp.
