Re: [pct-l] Dogs on the PCT.........

I came across the guy who walked with his dog last summer a number of
times, and every time I saw or heard about the dog he was not having a
good time!!! And I believe that Hurricane Helen had a great time with
her dog. I think the thing that is most important is that the hiker pay
close attention to messages a dog is giving out. A dog doesn't have the
option to say no, I'm going home, and yet that first dog's body language
and way of being said that's what he wanted. Dogs will do anything to
please their owners, even to the point of running themselves to death or
being very uncomfortable in order to be with their masters. Having a dog
on the trail is something that has lots of positive pieces about it,
especially when your pooch is your best friend. And the tendency to be
in some denial about what the dog really wants because we want him with
us, is real strong, I would think. I'm an animal lover from way back and
just think you'd need to be real careful around bringing a dog with you. IMHO.

Enjoy the day.

Namaste, m
