[pct-l] Conditions of Section K - Stevens Pass to Stehekin

Hi Rick and others,

My friends and I just finished Stevens Pass to Stehekin yesterday. Trail conditions were "to be expected". We had clear sailing for the first couple of days besides the fallen trees (three had to be crawled on my belly- very large and substantial) but heading northbound just south of Mica Lake there was a 75' patch of snow at summit. We crossed it in the afternoon so it was quite slushy and fairly easy to get across.

Our biggest obstacle was the 1-1/2 to 2 miles of bush whacking north of Milk Creek. There is a 12 woman work crew doing their best to clear the trail of overgrown brush but they have their work cut out for them! We had huge black biting flies near the base of Glacier Peak so bring long covering or hike fast! Plenty of water flowing and the flowers are in full bloom!

Once we arrived at Suittle River, the valley began smelling like smoke and we had smoke all the way to Stehekin.

There was one river ford at South Agnes but well marked, follow the river rock trail and water was flowing well below my knees. We hiked a little over 100 miles, temps in the 80-90's during the daytime and low 40's at night. Enjoy your hike and no bears! One buck, many marmots and picas and plenty of WA most notorious creature of all, mouses! Have a great hike.
