I'm just section hiking my way north a bit at a time. So, not an expert
at all. But I have been fishing the Sierras for decades. The Sierras in
general offer some great trout fishing. But the time required for the few
calories obtained make this strictly an entertainment, not a substitute
for your packed food. Fish are generally small but fishing is good
morning & evening during insect hatches that can be incredible but last
only a few minutes. Generally mid-day fishing is slow (but then you would
be making miles). Afternoons & evenings often have a stiff breeze making
casting tough. Bait fishing can be productive, but requires weights,
bait, etc.- things that I would not want to carry. If you really want to
fish, I'd suggest a light weight pack rod (4-piece or telescoping) & small
spinning reel with 4-6 lb test line. Include a few spinners for casting
in the lakes. Trout will often hit a spinner during a hatch. But you can
also cast a fly by using a clear float (one float would be enough). This
simple set-up weighs just about a pound. You can ship this to Kennedy
Meadows (you won't find much fishing south of that). That is also a good
place to ship your bear canister. California fishing regulations are very
complex so you need to check the rules for every lake & stream in advance.
Sometimes only artificial lures with barbless hooks are allowed. Some
places are catch-&-release only. Certain areas are closed altogether. And
you would need a fishing licence for each state Keep in mind that you may
have little energy & little daylight at the end of a hiking day. But it
may be worth the fun & a few fresh trout dinners. Oregon & Washington
also have fishing opportunities. But I don't think I would carry the gear
for the entire PCT.
Good Luck! "Barista"

Looking for someone experienced in supplies needed to travel south to
north. Where to get gear sent for high sierras, or to carry it from the
start. Is a ice pick necessary, do I need rope, will there be fishing
opportunity, thought about bringing line and hooks, what are good meals to
bring? Many more questions but just got signed in trying to find good
contacts
