[pct-l] New Wanna-be Thru-hiker

I've seen a lot of people have to bail 1/2 to 2/3 of the way through a
through hike due to lack of funds. Many on the AT, a few on the PCT. I
would recommend having enough to complete the trip before starting. It is
really heartbreaking to have to leave a thru hike because of funds. I'd
wait an extra year or two if I had too in order to ensure I had enough $
before heading out. Also it can be really hard to scrimp and save on the
trail. The call of food in town is strong, and the occasional beer with
fellow trail mates is all a part of the experience.

Most people only do a long trail once in lifetime - so consider that it may
be your only time ever doing something like this.
Of course there are a few that start out thinking it will be a once in a
lifetime thing and then discover the greatest danger of the trail --- is
the trail.

HYOH, enjoy the PCT is it a great experience

Well, I agree with Diane. It'll be almost impossible to thruhike with no
money and no savings. I don't think she was talking shit, just talking
reality. You might be thruhiking, but you still need food, clothing and
shelter. If you spend your time hunting, fishing and making clothing out of
deerhide, you'll have very little time for hiking.
