[pct-l] TRT Hike

I did the trip last August. I didn't find it particularly crowded away
from the trail heads. Contact was sparse enough that I welcomed it
when I encountered it.

That being said, the closer you get to trail heads, the more people
you see, and there are a lot of road crossings. I ran into into lots
of folks in 64 Acre park, at Echo Lake, Tahoe Meadows, and in the Mt
Rose area. Otherwise it was pretty chill. You can see some pix, if you
have a FB account at http://goo.gl/eV5n8T

The only real issues I had were all the bikes on a "closed day" on the
Tahoe Meadows to Tunnel Creek Rd section, probably because I was
hiking it in the morning.... And I was annoyed because the trail was
clearly labeled as "closed to Mountain Bikes" on that day.

Overall, I felt it was a good distillation of the PCT. You go from
wilderness to road crossings, pass from little used places, through
high use weekender areas, deal with food drops, and water issues. A
really good introduction to the sort of things you run into on a thru
hike. There is a coin shower in the park next to the McDonalds in
Tahoe City

I parked at 64 Acre park in Tahoe City, and resupplied at Echo Lake
and Tramway Market.

If I went about this time of year (after Labor Day) is there a bit more solitude? I recognize that some sections will receive more traffic--hiker and mountain biker--then others, but I would not enjoy having mountain bikes blasting by me for days on end. Perhaps trying to time some of the sections for weekdays will help?
