Last year I was also wondering where to park a car vs. fly into Reno and hitch hike.  
 
Today I learned of a new trail called the Rim to Reno Trail.  Now, it does not start / go into Reno, but about 10'ish miles south of Reno.  If I were to do the Tahoe Rim Trail I am considering flying into Reno and road walking / hitchhike south to the start of the Rim to Reno trail, and walk up this trail to connect into the TRT.  The Rim to Reno trail is 22-25 miles long, which would make my hike around 215 miles.
