If you are carrying along a Smart Phone, in particular an Android phone, and want to be able to use its GPS functionality to help navigate the trail, Backcountry Navigator should do the trick for you.  The link below will walk you through loading the topo map for the PCT and overlaying it with halfmiles way points.  This is a nice little tool and worked well for me last year.  This does not have all the functionality or battery life of a dedicated GPS, but does very well when you need to locate the trail, or your position on the trail.
