The pink flower in your Castle Crags to Burney Falls blog that you didn't
know the name of is called Pussy Paws, "Calyptridium umbellatum."
Its name comes from the fact that if you touch the bloom it feels like the
soft pad on the bottom of a cat's paw.
At night the stems lower so that the blooms lay flat on the ground to
collect all the available warmth from the soil. During the day, as the
ground heats up, the stems raise up lifting the blooms in the air to avoid
over heating.
