Wouldn't a one-micron filter be sufficient by itself?  And how long would it take for water to seep through the fabric by gravity alone (no pressure)?

If you have tried this, lots of hikers would be interested.  Where can you obt ain one-micron fabri c?  Cost?

TIA,

Mango

I’m planning a 2013 thru-hike and using a Steripen.

How many times would I possibly be using muddy/mucky water where the turbidity  would come into play for UV purifying?

I’m thinking of carrying a piece of 1 micron filter fabric to pre-filter such water instead of just a bandanna …. Would it be worth while?

‘til later
