I’m planning a 2013 thru-hike and using a Steripen.

How many times would I possibly be using muddy/mucky water where the turbidity  would come into play for UV purifying?

I’m thinking of carrying a piece of 1 micron filter fabric to pre-filter such water instead of just a bandanna 
. Would it be worth while?
