In a book by Royal Robbins, he describes solo climbing one of the big walls in Yosemite. Upon reaching the top and thinking that he was now out of danger tried to cross the stream above Bridal Veil with a rope.  He nearly died and the story is one all thru-hikers ought to read on what NOT to do.
