[pct-l] stove burn time

I agree with you Paul. The canister stove is the safest and best, considering
the pros and cons, for the trail. I used a Jetboil.  It is very easy to use and
if you use the 3-leg stand that they supply (it can be snapped on the the bottom
of the canister), it is also very stable. I like that I can adjust the flame
(for everything from simmer to fast boil) and easily shut it off. Using the
Jetboil on the trail for over five months, I have never had it flare up. Cooking
two meals per day I get an average of five or six days on the canister that is
one size larger than the smallest. I think that Jetboil now supplies a light
weight tool so you can puncture the canister to drain it for disposal and
recycling.

Below you can find information about different stoves which includes the burn
time, estimated fuel usage and cost.

homemade alcohol stoves and Esbit stove

I have used a lot of stoves while backpacking.  I made all the alcohol stoves
listed in the above link and made many more not listed.  In my opinion a
canister (butane/propane) stove is the safest and best way to go for a
thru-hike.  I am providing the information on all the other stoves so that you
can make a more educated choice in stove selection.

I understand everyone has different needs.  Good luck in selecting the best
stove for your needs.

I hope this information helps.

Paul
