When someone is looking for the distance between 2 points, the obvious
and most common method is to consult your favorite data book using
predefined locations. For quick and easy web access, you may find the
online data book handy:

Determining the distance between 2 points *not* in the data book is
not so obvious. Your pal here at postholer has the answer for you.
Using the postholer google map, click the link 'show distances'. Then
move your mouse over the blue trail trace. When a mileage/elevation
appears, left click your mouse, this is the anchor for the first
point. Then move your mouse to the next location until a
mileage/elevation appears, left click again. Give it a try:

You will will get something that looks like this:
Start: 1157.0
End: 1257.0
Length: 100.0
10 days @ 10 mpd
6.66 days @ 15 mpd
5 days @ 20 mpd
4 days @ 25 mpd
3.3 days @ 30 mpd
This is not a new feature to the maps, just one of many, obscure but
handy features.
