I thought I would turn this thread around into the positive direction.
I tried and failed to hike the PCT in 1991.
After the initial shock and heart rending I turned to books to figure out what I did wrong.
One book in particuar helped me turn my 75 lb pack strategy (circa 1991) into the 35 lb (circa 2000) and at last a 12 lb pack.
The PCT Hikers Handbook by Ray Jardine 1992.
While not all of what I found in the book was pertinent to my style of hiking it at least showed me a new strategy and range of gear possibilities.
Before Yogi's book it was all I had and the resupply plans in the back were very helpful even last year before my 2009 thru hike.
It is ironic that I look at the 20 lb packload which was so revolutionary in 1992 compared to the 8 lb loads of some of the folks last year.
Colin Fletcher Thousand Mile Summer was helpful to foster
my spirit before last years hike as well.
Anyhow, I was really just curious what other folks did or are doing before their hike that is positive or helped them get through.
