[pct-l] Continuous hike - Idyllwild

Greetings,

Fire and ice. When I got to Mt. San Jacinto in 2008, the trail was closed due to snow and ice. And then due to fire. So. Just in case the trail might be blocked this year, I'm considering an alternative which would involve a walk into Idyllwild from the trail at Hwy. 74 (~21 miles). And then a walk to and up Black Mountain Road. I plan to be there mid-April.

I'm looking for reactions, including comments about the advisability of a road walk along 74.
