[pct-l] Continuous hike - Idyllwild

I've hiked up Black Mountain Road - it's fine, nothing noteworthy. The
highway is a different story. Not much to say about it - high speed
vehicles, small shoulders, dangerous. If you can live with it not being a
perfect walk, it'd be safer to get a ride to Black Mt Rd.

Subject: [pct-l] Continuous hike - Idyllwild

Greetings,

Fire and ice. When I got to Mt. San Jacinto in 2008, the trail was closed
due to snow and ice. And then due to fire. So. Just in case the trail might
be blocked this year, I'm considering an alternative which would involve a
walk into Idyllwild from the trail at Hwy. 74 (~21 miles). And then a walk
to and up Black Mountain Road. I plan to be there mid-April.

I'm looking for reactions, including comments about the advisability of a
road walk along 74.

Walk well,
Jim Keener ( J J )
