Well said, Jeff.

There have been references to social campfires on the PCT in trail journals
from recent years, some obviously at places and elevations where they are,
for good reason, illegal.

I get the fun aspect of friends and campfires, but I wish the hikers on
this list would agree to abstain. I do not think it is one of those "HYOH"
freedom issues. Building fires in the backcountry is not a good practice.
