FYI -

BackpackingLight just released a thorough review of the SPOT Satellite GPS Messenger (SPOT2) -
<http://www.backpackinglight.com/cgi-bin/backpackinglight/spot2_personal_locator_review>...
I believe you have to be a BPL member to read the full review, unfortunately for some...

After 750 hours of field testing in Alaska, the Andes, the Pyrenees, the Sierras, and a Utah
canyon system, BPL gave the SPOT2 a "highly recommended" rating...
4.2 oz. with lithium batteries, 4.8 with cover & clip (5.2 oz. mfr. spec)... (BPL also tested
with alkaline batts since lithium not always available while on long trails)
Battery life longer than mfr. specs: 5-5.8 days Track Progress vs. 3.5 spec (alkaline batts
got 3.4 days tracking)...

Hope that helps someone out there!

Happy trails!!!
Jim (PITA)
