[pct-l] Minimum pack size/volume

Hi Thomas,

My base weight is also 10 lbs and I use the older style ULA Conduit. I
believe the total pack volume of the pack is around 3,200 ci and it is
plenty enough room for me. Even with five days of food I never need to use
the extension collar.

I even carry an inflatable 3/4 thermarest plus a foam foot pad inside the
pack (both doubling as a back pad for the pack).

I imagine that 2,800 ci should be fine as long as you are carrying gear that
is low volume in addition to being lightweight (tarp, ultralight down
sleeping bag, calorie dense food, etc.)

You can strap a bear canister on top of most ultralight packs so it doesn't
take up space inside. By moving some of your food from inside the pack to
the bear canister you will actually free up some space inside for warmer
clothing or extra Sierra gear. If you normally carry a rolled up foam pad on
top of the pack you'll need to find somewhere else to strap that though.

Hi everyone,

Please address minimum pack size/volume for a pct hike thru. My base weight
is approximately 10 lbs. I am looking at the GG Gorilla with 2800 ci (46L).
A little small but the other features are very attractive. I know the
Gorilla has been used for sections of the pct but am unsure if used for the
entire length.

Thanks,

Thomas

Don't forget to take "bear canister" into consideration...
