I remember wondering the same thing when planning last year:  what about Onyx?  Now that i've gone through there, i think i know why.  It's very forgettable.  Gas station, sodas, post office.  Lake Isabella has a store and a couple restaurants and motels, but it is pretty forgettable too.  This seemed to also be the most difficult hitch of the whole trail for me and those i was around.

Maybe Ridgecrest is worth the distance, but to do again, i might just try all the way from Mojave to Kennedy Meadows without resupply.  Consider it a warm-up for the High Sierra.
