I thought this was interesting: John Vonhof, author of Fixing Your Feet,
writes a cautionary note about trail shoes with lots of mesh. He notes that
while ventilation is good for your feet, sand and grit are bad. He suggests
not going overboard on the ventilation if you want to control blisters on
dusty trails.
