I can't help with a ride because I live several states away, but if you don't find a ride you might want to try Amtrak from Chico To Sacramento to Truckee.  It will still take all day, but it might be more pleasant than Greyhound. 

For a schedule, go to www.amtrak.com and type in departure station CIC and arrival station TRU.
