[pct-l] Snoqualimie to Manning Park

I'm thinking about backpacking from Snoqualmie to Manning Park in August.  However, I read in the guide book that there are several icy and treacherous snow crossings.  I'm 60 now, and not as sure-footed or brave as I once was.

1.  Does anyone know of any bypasses around these "treacherous" sections?

2. Will these sections be scary in August?  I am pretty timid on slick slopes, but I had no trouble doing Sonora Pass ( a few years ago) when it was snow-free.

3. I don't want the weight of an ice ax, but I do have instep crampons I could carry if it would be a good idea.  Could I use my bear rope and a caribeener for added security in case I slip?

Any thoughts or recommendations would be much appreciated.  Thank you!
