Greg,
Mike Horn is one of my heroes also.
He and Borge Ousland have done some of the most amazing things,.....it
just blows me away.
For some reason I just don't belief Mike is serious when he
says........"I'm not doing what I do for the risk or to die..... I'm
doing it to live".
I think the risk factor plays a big part in his doing what he does.
Adding risk to adventure makes the adventure more exciting.
Take for example the risk factor of backpacking in bear country, it
makes the hike more adventurous and exciting.
Remove the risk factor (the bears, the Mountain Lions and the snakes)
and the hike becomes less adventurous, more like a walk in the
neighborhood park.
Mike is a big risk taker.....he thrives on risk.....it motivates
him.....it is the driving force behind what he does.
I AM A BIG RISK TAKER ALSO!!!
Every time I do my "Couch to Frig" Yo Yo, in preparation for my JMT
fastpacks I take the risk of slipping on the tile floor or a frozen
turkey fallen out of the freezer onto my foot.
The risk factor is what makes the "Couch to Frig" Yo Yo so exciting and
adventurous, not to mention that is also extremely strenuous.
So strenuous in fact, that I always must stop and down a beer, to
replace the calories and electrolytes, before Yo Yoing back to the couch.
So you see, Mike and I have a lot in common.
With this my friends I will once again say "Adios my friends" and devote
all of my time to the extremely strenuous and adventurous "Couch to
Frig. Yo Yo" in preparation for my upcoming JMT hike.
Hope to see you all on the trail someday.
Until then, "Happy Trails".
JMT Reinhold
