Same here. My down bag takes up a third of my pack volume. I made a large, 
custom silnylon stuff sack just for my bag.

Manufacturers mantra is, "stuffs down to the size of a load of bread!" The 
reality is, why would you want to?

I didn't compress my bag; I just stuffed it as loosely as possible in
whatever space was available in my pack.  The result was, my pack
always looked full regardless of whether I had lots of consumables
on board, or none.
