On average, when is the earliest this chunk o' trail
is basically snow-free?
~~~
In 2006, a determined hiker party hiked 28 miles across snow on Sec O on
Memorial Day week. I saw less in 2003-2005 during my MemDay hikes along
SecO.  I learned that the section from Peavine Creek across Mushroom rock
and Grizzly Peak and again on Girard Ridge has a reputation for holding snow
into mid June in normal snow years. If you are patient, July 1 this year
would be a good snow less window, and even mid June would be acceptable with
a few short snow sections. Navigation along SecO is a challenge on snow.
Here is a snowtel for Stout Mdw that I like to use for guessing the snow
near Griz Peak, and when it gets near zero, go for O. Knowing where the old
1970s PCT goes along the roads and ridgeline in the Mushroom Rock area helps
when the north faces are snow covered. See ya at the ADZPCTKO.
