You should never rely on ''your significant other'' as your resupply for 
the reasons you have already pointed out.
Disappearing in the wilderness for several month at a time puts ''your 
significant other'', who is left at home, through tremendous stress and 
frustration which may sever your resupply line, as already  know.
Your ''MOTHER'', on the other hand, will never abandon you and keep that 
resupply line flowing, no matter what and she will never run off with 
your cat or water pump.
