I think when you have accumulated multiply PCT hikes and have substantial
miles on long hikes you have a understanding of how the trail may have
looked in the past. Things you saw previously may be less impacted than
before, or could be impacted more than previously seen. So when you see
obvious signs of abuse why would you not bring that to the attention of
other hikers? I hope that people would understand and respect the voice of
experienced hikers, whom only want to protect and bring light to a growing
problem. If you've been on the trail you will most likely be returning. So
we can all try to keep as beautiful as it should be.
